Dear Growing Great Children
In May 2013, Pemberton BMX was nominated for the Kraft Celebration Tour and on 30th June we learnt that this nomination was successful and we were in the Top 20 out of 629 communities across Canada.
On Thursday 11th July Pemberton, BC will go head to head in a voting match up against Invermere, BC for a chance to win $25,000 for Pemberton BMX; to host a live TSN SportsCentre broadcast; and to host a Community Celebration including a Kraft sponsored BBQ, provided free to the public, with a Family Fun Zone featuring a number of fun, interactive activities provided by Kraft Celebration Tour brands.
An amount of $25,000 could make a huge and positive difference in Pemberton as it would go a long way in allowing the rebuilding of the small BMX track and enable it to be completed in the manner in which it has been envisioned.
The current track was built by a small core group of volunteers with the aim of growing a fun BMX community for locals and traveling racers alike. They have, to date, been able to raise and secure funding through events, silent auctions and by donation.
Pemberton is a small community 30 minutes north of Whistler and with an approximate population of 2,300 that includes many families with young children but limited recreation opportunities. Therefore, it would be wonderful to be able to offer another facility for all to enjoy and would be a great addition to the waterpark and skatepark as we do not have a pool or ice rink. Furthermore, the start hill would double up as a snow skills park in the winter, providing year round recreation capabilities.
As Pemberton is so often left in the shadow of Whistler it would be a huge boost for the entire village to be recognized for it’s hard work and determination in raising the funds that it has to date and to be able to showcase a bigger and better BMX facility for all to enjoy.
